South San Francisco, CA – July 01, 2005 – KAI Pharmaceuticals Inc., announced today the appointment of an outstanding group of scientists and industry leaders to its newly expanded Scientific Advisory Board. These eight advisory committee members will meet regularly to provide KAI with guidance concerning the advancement of its pipeline of novel Protein Kinase C modulators. Smith Professor of Translational Medicine and the Professor and Chair of the Department of Molecular Pharmacology at Stanford University. Dr. Mochly-Rosen co-founded KAI Pharmaceuticals in 2002. Robert Bell, Ph.D. Dr. Bell is a Venture Partner at Intersouth Partners in Durham, North Carolina and founder of Sphinx Pharmaceuticals. He was Vice President of Research at Glaxo Wellcome, Inc and a James B. Duke Professor of Biochemistry and Professor of Medicine at Duke University. Richard D. DiMarchi, Ph.D. Dr. DiMarchi is the Linda and Jack Gill Chair in Biomolecular Sciences and Professor of Chemistry at Indiana University. He was formerly Group Vice President at Eli Lilly & Company and is a co-founder of the biotechnology companies Ambrx and Inproteo. Steven F. Dowdy, Ph.D. Dr. Dowdy is an Investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) and Professor of Cellular & Molecular Medicine at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) School of Medicine. Eric M. Gordon, Ph.D. Dr. Gordon is a partner at Skyline Ventures, Palo Alto, California. He was Vice President of Research at Affymax Research Institute and Scientific Founder, President and Chief Scientific Officer of Versicor, as well as Senior Vice President of Research at Sunesis. Randy Schekman, Ph.D. Dr. Schekman is a Professor in the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology, University of California, Berkeley, and an Investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. He is a winner of the Albert Lasker Award in Basic Medical Research and a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Susan Taylor, Ph.D. Dr. Taylor is a professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry and of Pharmacology at the University of California, San Diego and an Investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, a member of the National Academy of Sciences, and a member of the Institute of Medicine. Robert Tjian, Ph.D. Dr. Robert Tjian is a professor in the Molecular and Cell Biology Department at the University of California, Berkeley and an Investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. He is a member of the Academia Sinica of China, the National Academy of Sciences of the United States and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is a co-founder of Tularik.
